Window Coverings for Black Rock & Lake Coeur d'Alene Luxury Homes

Shades and drapery designed for big glass, elevation and lake light.

Black Rock sits on the west side of Lake Coeur d'Alene, just north of Rockford Bay, around the private Golf Club at Black Rock, a Jim Engh design opened in 2003. Its canyons, trees and dramatic changes in elevation give many homes long views over the lake, and the same is true of luxury homes all around the lake's shoreline.

Elevation means more sky and more light

Homes set high above the water see more sky and catch light earlier and later in the day. That is beautiful, but it also means more glare on screens, more heat in summer and faster fading. Solar shades manage all three while keeping the view.

West-facing and afternoon sun

Rooms facing west over the lake get the strongest sun in the late afternoon. We often pair a lighter solar shade for daytime with a room-darkening shade or drapery for the evening, so you can watch the sunset and then close the room in.

Motorized shades

Tall windows, clerestories and great rooms are where motorized shades earn their keep. Group every shade into one scene, let them lower before the afternoon glare and rise at sunset, or control them by remote, app or voice. With the smart hub they work with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Home, and you can run them from your phone when you're away. Rechargeable battery motors mean no new wiring in a finished home.

Custom drapery by Carole Fabrics

For living rooms, bedrooms and the evening, custom drapery adds warmth, softness and privacy. Our draperies are handcrafted by Carole Fabrics, with more than 5,000 fabrics to choose from, and can run on a motorized track so even very wide or tall windows open and close at a touch. Layered over a solar or blackout shade, drapery gives you the view by day and a warm, private room at night.

Luxury homes around the lake

We design window coverings for luxury homes all around Lake Coeur d'Alene, from the west shore to the Gozzer Ranch and Harrison area and the lakefront neighborhoods in town. See also our guide to shades for Coeur d'Alene view homes.

Designer's Tip

Look at your windows at sunset before you choose. The low western sun over the lake is usually the hardest light to manage, and it decides the fabric and the number of layers you need.

Common Questions

Do you install window coverings at Black Rock?

Yes. We serve Black Rock and luxury homes all around Lake Coeur d'Alene, with free in-home consultations, measuring and installation.

How do I stop glare without losing the lake view?

Solar shades filter glare and heat while you still see out. Darker fabrics usually give the clearest view.

Can large and high windows be motorized?

Yes. Motorized shades handle tall and hard-to-reach windows and can be grouped so a whole room opens or closes at once.

Can I layer drapery over motorized shades?

Yes. Drapery over a solar or blackout shade gives you the view by day and warmth and privacy at night, and the drapery can be motorized too.

Are you affiliated with The Club at Black Rock?

No. Shade Design Gallery is an independent, locally owned company serving North Idaho.
