# Window Treatments for Cannon Hill Homes

Designed for the Craftsman, Foursquare and period revival homes around Cannon Hill Park.

## A neighborhood built with care

Cannon Hill grew up around one of Spokane's most charming parks. The Olmsted Brothers laid out Cannon Hill Park in 1907 on the site of an old brickyard, and the streets around it filled with Craftsman bungalows, American Foursquares and Tudor and Colonial Revival homes.

Many still have their original woodwork, built-ins, divided-light windows and leaded glass. Parts of the neighborhood also follow local historic guidance, so window treatments should feel like they belong to the house.

## Respecting the architecture

Layla, our lead designer, grew up in Spokane and has spent more than 20 years in interior design in Seattle, Dubai and San Francisco. In a Cannon Hill home she starts with the house itself: the trim profile, the color of the wood, the period of the rooms. Then she suggests fabrics, textures and mounting that suit it.

Sometimes the best advice is to cover less. Beautiful leaded or art glass often deserves to stay on show, with privacy added only where you need it.

## What Works Beautifully in Cannon Hill

### Custom Roman Shades

Soft, tailored folds in linen, wool blends or a beautiful print. The classic choice for traditional rooms, and lovely layered under drapery.

### Woven Wood Shades

Natural texture that warms a room and complements wood trim, stone and a garden view.

### Custom Drapery & Valances

Made to order with the right lining, pleat and hardware for the room. Frames the window, adds warmth and finishes a formal space.

### Real Wood Blinds

Timeless and adjustable, with stains chosen to sit comfortably next to original woodwork. Made for arched and unusual shapes too.

### Cellular Shades

The most insulating shade we sell. Top-down/bottom-up versions give privacy at street level and daylight from above.

### Motorized Shades

Rechargeable battery motors, so no rewiring. One tap, your voice or a schedule. Ideal for tall and hard-to-reach windows.

## Room by Room

### Living rooms

Woven wood or linen Roman shades bring warmth that complements original fir or oak trim.

### Dining rooms

Roman shades with side drapery panels create a finished, period-appropriate look.

### Bedrooms

Blackout Roman shades or cellular shades behind drapery for quiet, dark nights.

### Window seats & bays

Individually made shades for each window of a bay, so every section works on its own.

## Questions from Cannon Hill Homeowners

**Q: What window treatments suit a Craftsman bungalow?**

Roman shades in natural fabrics, woven wood shades and real wood blinds with stains that complement original trim are classic Craftsman choices. Lined drapery adds warmth in living and dining rooms.

**Q: Should I cover leaded or stained glass?**

Usually not entirely. We often recommend leaving art glass visible and using top-down/bottom-up shades, a sheer layer or side panels for privacy only where needed.

**Q: Can you mount shades without damaging original trim?**

We discuss mounting options with you before installation and choose the approach that best protects your woodwork.

**Q: My windows aren't square. Is that a problem?**

No. Every product is made to order, and we measure each window individually.

**Q: Can I add motorized shades to an older home?**

Yes. Rechargeable battery motors need no wiring, so there's no need to open plaster walls.

**Q: How do I get started?**
